Dr. Thao-Nguyen Phan’s love for optometry began when she was 12 years old. Suffering from multiple disorders of the eye, she frequently visited her then family optometrist for care. Her passion for optometry was formed largely because of the excellent care she received from her doctor. He made her issues feel important, with his attention to detail and quality. Over time, a lifelong professional friendship between Dr. Phan and her childhood optometrist developed. The mentoring she received from him showed her that she too could achieve her dream as an optometrist and be that same caring figure for others one day.
After high school, Dr. Phan obtained her bachelor’s degree studies at the University of Texas at Austin. From there, she completed her studies as a Doctor of Optometry at Nova Southeastern University in South Florida. At Nova, Dr. Phan deepened her passion for optometry and became especially interested in pediatrics and vision therapy. Additionally, it was during her clinical rotations at Nova that she affirmed her enthusiasm and passion for improving the lives of her patients.
Dr. Phan and her husband relocated to Illinois, where she independently practiced optometry. She later felt it was better to move back to Texas, closer to family and sunshine. Also, Dr. Phan felt particularly drawn to Pupila Family Eye and Ear care as a place where she can practice techniques such as vision therapy.
In her free time, Dr. Phan enjoys playing tennis, discovering new places to eat, traveling with her husband, and spending time with family
